July 22 - TN COVID Update: 5849 New Cases | 74 New Deaths | Total - 186,492 Cases & 2700 Deaths

It is that time of the day when the official numbers of the COVID-19 cases are released and here we bring it for you along with a comprehensive round-up of all the details! Tamil Nadu has seen the biggest ever single day spike so far with close to 6000 new cases in 1 day! The last 24 hours show that Tamil Nadu has had 5849 new cases of COVID positive being reported, taking the overall total to 186,492! Of these, 1171 new cases have been identified in Chennai alone, taking the district's total to 89,531! Madurai has recorded 197 new cases and the district has now registered a total of 8705, while 3016 of them are currently active! Chengalpattu has recorded 10495 total cases of which 2524 are currently active and Tiruvallur has recorded a total of 10210 cases with 3737 of them being currently active. Ranipet alone has recorded 414 new cases in the last 24 hours, while Tiruvallur registered 430 new cases and Virudhunagar has recorded 363 new cases!
There have been 74 new COVID related deaths in Tamil Nadu in the past 24 hours, taking the total to 2700. As of now, Chennai is the biggest hotspot in the state and has 89,531 cases registered. The total number of active cases in entire Tamil Nadu, stands at 51,765 while the number of active cases in Chennai alone stands at 13,941! The number of recoveries has seen a very good increase from the last few days! There have been 4910 new recoveries and discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recovered people to 131,583. There have been a record 60,112 samples tested, in the past 24 hours alone, taking the total tests to 2,095,757 tests, which continues to remain the highest for any state in our country!
