July 20 - TN COVID Update: 4985 New Cases | 70 New Deaths | Total - 175,678 Cases & 2551 Deaths

It is that time of the day when the official numbers of the COVID-19 cases are released and here we bring it for you along with a comprehensive round-up of all the details! The last 24 hours show that Tamil Nadu has had 4985 new cases of COVID positive being reported, taking the overall total to 175,678! Of these, 1298 new cases have been identified in Chennai alone, taking the district's total to 87,235! Madurai has recorded 106 new cases and the district has now registered a total of 8357, while 3263 of them are currently active! Chengalpattu has recorded 10027 total cases of which 2549 are currently active and Tiruvallur has recorded a total of 9424 cases with 3457 of them being currently active. Tiruvallur alone has recorded 454 new cases in the last 24 hours, while Chengalpattu registered 354 new cases and KAncheepuram has recorded 329 new cases!
There have been 70 new COVID related deaths in Tamil Nadu in the past 24 hours, taking the total to 2551. As of now, Chennai is the biggest hotspot in the state and has 87,235 cases registered. The total number of active cases in entire Tamil Nadu, stands at 51,348 while the number of active cases in Chennai alone stands at 15,127! The number of recoveries is significantly lower than the number of infections! There have been 3861 new recoveries and discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recovered people to 121,776. There have been 52,087 samples tested, in the past 24 hours alone, taking the total tests to 1,984,579 tests, which is the highest for any state in the country!
