Ever since the Central Government introduced the three Farm Bills, there has been heavy opposition to it. However, it all came to a head when hundreds of thousands of farmers arrived in Delhi, demanding the repealing of the 3 Farm Laws. With support pouring in for the farmers from across the nation, the farmers protest has intensified and they have called for a nationwide protest. The Bharat Bandh, called for by the Bharatiya Kisan Union, will begin at 11:00 am tomorrow (Tuesday) morning and end at 3:00 pm! The farmers' protest against the agricultural laws has been happening for the past 11 days.
The demands of the farmers have so far not been met with by the government and this is the reason the farmers have called for a nationwide Bharat Bandh. A spokesperson for the Bharatiya Kisan Union has stated that they don't want to disturb the common man and that is the reason behind the Bandh timings being restricted to between 11 am and 3 pm, to not cause any difficulties to officegoers. Reports state that during the Bandh, the farmers could go to lengths like blocking the roads and disrupting services including transport and banking. However, emergency services like ambulances and pre-planned weddings would be allowed to proceed undisturbed.
The farmers state that this is a symbolic protest to register their opposition against some policies of the Government of India. As per recent updates, the farmers and representatives of the government are expected to meet once again on Wednesday. The farmers have been expressing their opposition to the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020. The intensifying of the farmers' protests in Delhi has caused the Delhi Police to direct people entering and leaving the Capital to use alternate routes, to avoid getting caught in traffic jams!
