Julianne is blond in Blindness

Julianne Moore, whose red hair is quite an eyecatcher, decided she wanted to tone it down abit for her next movie Blindness, so she went ahead and dyed her hair blond! "I'm a redhead," she said at a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival, where director Fernando Meirelles' thriller Blindness played as the opening night gala. "I'm always a redhead, except for this movie where I decided to be blond. I just thought it was right. It's interesting because, before I got there I hadn't spoken to Fernando about it, and I surprised him. But I kept feeling that red was too strong. I wanted her to go away (fade into the scenes) a little bit."

Blindness is about an inexplicable epidemic that causes people to lose their sight for no apparent reason. Unable to understand or end the epidemic, those inflicted are stowed away in an abandoned mental hospital by the Government. Julianne plays the wife of a doctor who is amongst the victims. She pretends to be blind just to be by his side and help him through his difficult times. However, things get much worse at the hospital and it’s up to the doctor and his wife to save the day.

Julianne strongly believes that her blond hair allowed the director to blend her character into the stylized look of the film better. However, she won’t do the dyeing again! "Having done that," Julianne said, "I don't want to do it again. I didn't like it very much."

The movie releases on9thJanuary. Don’t miss this pulse-racing thriller that promises to give your new year a jump start!
