Hollywood actress Catherine Keener is celebrating her 53rd birthday today.

Catherine, regarded as one of the Hollywood's greatest actors around, has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her roles in Being John Malkovich, in 1999 and Capote in 2005. She has been instrumental in the success of movies like Lovely and Amazing, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, An American Crime, Into the Wild, Please Give and Hamlet 2.

Catherine Keener's first film appearance was in About Last Night, in 1986, although she struggled to win roles in other movies till 1989. She came together with Dermot Mulroney, who went on to become her husband, for her second movie Survival Quest, during the shooting of which they fell in love. Since then, there was no looking back for Catherine, who has had a very successful journey in cinema, thus far.

Keener married actor Dermot Mulroney in 1990. In June 2007, Mulroney filed for divorce, citing personal differences, and the pair was legally granted divorce on December 19, 2007.

Catherine's last movie was Peace, Love and Understanding, directed by Bruce Beresford. Catherine was lauded by critics around the world for her performance as Diane, in this movie.
