Yesudas' musical tour in Kollam

'Santhi Sangeetha Theertha Yatra', a music programme led by legendary Indian playback singer K.J. Yesudas as a part of his cross-country musical campaign against terrorism and communalism, will be staged at Kadappakada Swaralaya Open Air Auditorium, Kollam on Saturday evening.

Kollam is the second venue of the campaign which was recently launched at Thiruvananthapuram on January 11 by Kavita Karkare, widow of Maharashta Police’s Anti-Terrorism Squad chief Hemant Karkare. The final destination of the yatra is Delhi. It will├п┬┐┬╜cover major cities including Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru.

During the programme on Saturday, playback singer P. Suseela will be presented with the Swaralaya-KPAC Sulochana Award, which carries a cash prize of Rs.50,000, trophy and a citation. The award presentation ceremony will be followed by a music concert by more than a dozen singers, including Yesudas, Suseela, B. Vasantha and folk singer C.J. Kuttappan. This event is jointly organized by the Swaralaya and the Kadappakada Sports Club and Reading Room.

Meanwhile, Thengamam Balakrishnan, chairman of the organizing committee, said that they have decided to honour film technician Resul Pookutty, who was nominated for the Oscars for his work in Slumdog Millionaire. Pookutty, a native of Kollam district, will be presented with the Pattathuvila Karunakaran Memorial Trust Award that carries a cash prize of Rs. 25,000, a trophy and a citation. The award ceremony is likely to be held in February.
