Ace director SS Rajamouli's love for Kerala goes a long way back--right from his Simhadri days. So it is no wonder that the director chose to shot a majority of his magnum opus in the God's Own Country. Hailing Kerala as a filmmaker's paradise, the director also said that one does not have to scout for locations in Kerala. He was in Trivandrum to take part in the wedding of his friend's daughter, an orthopaedician based in Hyderabad.

"When the story of ‘Baahubali’ came to my mind, I wanted to capture the ferocity and hugeness of Athirapally as against the placidity and calmness that is exploited most in the movies shot here,” he was quoted saying to a new agency.

Interestingly, when quipped about the nominations at IIFA South, the director revealed that he is not interested in awards and he "does not see any value for them." However, he also added that he would be happy if Baahubali's technical team wins an award as it would be a motivational factor for them.
