Director Kannan, who was supposed to remake SS Rajamouli's superhit Telugu film Maryada Ramanna in Tamil with Santhanam in the lead, has opted out of the project. Confirming the news, he said,"I was in talks with producer Prasad V Potluri's banner for the remake. But, they wanted to work on a first-copy basis with Santhanam. Since I was not comfortable with this process, I opted out of the film. I spoke to both the producers and Santhanam, and it was a mutual decision."

The film has now fallen in the hands of Srinath, who made his directorial debut with Muthirai. He is a well known supporting actor too and has acted in films like Santhosh Subramaniam, Eeram and Aadukalam, to name a few. He said,"Pre-production work is on in full swing, and we're in the process of finalizing the cast and crew. The project might go on the floors mid-March."

Maryada Ramanna is an adaptation of 1923 Hollywood film Our Hospitality. The film has already been remade in Hindi as Son of Sardar, Kannada as Maryade Ramanna and Bengali as Faande Poriya Boga Kaande Re.
