Ram Gopal Varma seeks protection

A day after the All India Youth Federation (AIYF) staged ‘Quit obscenity’ demonstration against ace director Ram Gopal Varma's latest Adavi (Telugu version of his Bollywood flick Agyaat), the film maker met Superintendent of Police M.K. Singh at Ananthapur on Tuesday seeking protection to his production team during the shoot of his upcoming bilingual Rakta Charitra, scheduled to begin next month.

On the other hand, a delegation of CPI, AIYF and AISF called on the SP on Tuesday and requested him not to permit filming of the controversial subject. Earlier, the students’ federation warned that if the director does not stop producing controversial films, he would inevitably face a "direct attack" from the women of the state. After submitting a memorandum to the district police chief, the leaders said that it is not desirable and necessary to glorify the rivalry between two families by making a film.

They also appealed to the SP to examine the script of the film before taking a decision to allow the filming and providing security to the film unit. Otherwise, the CPI and its frontal organizations in association with other political parties would obstruct the shooting proceedings, they cautioned.

Simultaneously made in Hindi and Telugu, Rakta Charitra is the story of rebel-turned politician Paritala Ravi, one of the most-feared individuals in the blood-ridden faction politics of South India. The film marks the Bollywood debut of popular Tamil-Telugu actor Suriya, who will play the key role of Maddalcheruvu Suri, Paritala Ravi’s opponent.
