Raghava Lawrence: Kollywood's super cowboy

Noted choreographer-actor-turned-director Raghava Lawrence's Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam (Super Cowboy in Telugu), directed by Chimbu (also spelt as Simbu) Devan, has set the cash registers ringing.

“I was keen to work on this project right from the time Chimbu narrated the story. He was well prepared and had even taken a few photographs of the characters in their complete make up to give me a feel of the film. Kollywood has seen a cowboy film after 38 years and he had gone that extra mile to make it look authentic. Right from the get-up to style to dialogues, I loved them all,” Lawrence said to a leading English daily.

“Chimbu had proved himself in his first film, (the rip-roaring Imsai Arasan 23rd Pulikesi). Though his second film, Arai En 305il Kadavul, didn’t exactly set the BO on fire, it had a fine storyline. This generation hasn’t seen cowboys and this film is an interesting attempt at telling them how a cowboy would have lived. But that apart, the movie is a hilarious one. Irumbu Kottai... is an action comedy. Even the villain, after beating up people, keeps laughing. Avarukku comedya kovam varum (Even his anger will be comical),” he added.

Talking on his other projects, he said, “I’m currently busy with Kaanchana, which will be a sequel to my previous directorial venture, Muni. Anushka is playing the lead and I assure you that the film will be spine-chilling. It will have a lot of supernatural elements. I also have Pakki, directed by Rasu Madhuravan of Mayandi Kudumbathar fame, in my kitty. I’m also doing a film with Nag and Prabhas in Telugu.”
