Five-time National Award winner Prakash Raj will be seen next in Tamil cinema in Dhanush's upcoming film, Raayan, the leading Tamil actor announced on on Friday evening, February 23. The big casting announcement came along with a black and white monochrome poster of the popular actor showing him seated on a chair amidst a dingy street backdrop. Expressing his gratitude to the acclaimed actor for being a part of Raayan, Dhanush wrote on X, "What a pleasure @prakashraaj sir 🤗♥️" (sic).

This latest announcement from the Raayan camp has come as a big surprise to many as the film is already packed with several notable names like S J Suryah, Kalidas Jayaram, Sundeep Kishan, including Dhanush's brother Selvaraghavan cast in pivotal roles. Up until now, there was no word about Prakash Raj's casting in Raayan and his inclusion in the film will no doubt be a major highlight considering he has shared an excellent on-screen rapport with Dhanush in films most notably Thiruvilaiyaadal Aarambam (2006), Venghai (2011), Asuran (2019), and more recently Thiruchitrambalam (2022).

Among the highlights in the box office blockbuster Thiruchitrambalam was the father-son rapport between Prakash Raj and hanush, and fans will be looking forward to performances along the same lines once again in Raayan, which is gearing up for a massive release in cinemas this year. The highly-anticipated film is the two-time National Award winner Dhanush's second directorial after Pa Paandi (2017), and will feature songs and a background score by Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman, who is collaborating with the Captain Miller (2024) star for the fifth time after  Raanjhanaa (2013), Maryan (2013), and Atrangi Re (2021), while their Bollywood project Tere Ishk Mein under Aanand L. Rai's direction is also currently in development.
