National Award-winning Tamil actor 'Chiyaan' Vikram's Thangalaan directed by acclaimed filmmaker Pa. Ranjith is one of the biggest films made in Tamil cinema history and is gearing up for a grand worldwide theatrical release. The period action drama set amidst the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) backdrop during the pre-Independence era created a big buzz with its visuals in the teasers unveiled so far and has been announced to be coming out in cinemas this April. Having said that, there has been some chatter on social media that Thangalaan might not be out on the big screen as earlier announced, with reputed Tamil producer Dr. G. Dhananjeyan assuring fans in an exclusive interview with Galatta that the film's April release plan is still on.

Confirming the Vikram-Pa. Ranjith film's release plans, Dhananjeyan explained, "The total focus of the team is on Thangalaan because it is coming out in April and all the work for it is being carried out. There's no delay in the film's release. We announced that it is coming out in April. Since the 2024 Indian general election was announced to being held in April, we didn't mention the exact date." He further stated, "We previously thought that the elections will be taking place in May. And, we decided to go with April and also pondered about bringing the film out in theatres on March 29. As far as Thangalaan is concerned, there is no delay. I will not accept that statement. We made it clear one and a half months back in our announcement that the film is an April release and it will come out for sure then."

There are massive expectations surrounding Pa. Ranjith's Thangalaan, especially after the visuals showed Vikram in a completely new avatar unlike any he had ever portrayed over the course of his glorious career. Being planned to be presented in reputed film festivals around the world, the film also stars Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathy, and Harikrishnan who have been cast in key roles, while English actor Daniel Caltagirone is playing the antagonist, with the songs and the background score composed by National Award winner G. V. Prakash Kumar
