Remembering actress Ashwini, who passed away on Sunday at Sri Ramachandra Hospital in Chennai due to a lung ailment, popular actor, director, producer and writer Parthiban said that he met Ashwini during the shooting of his Pondatti Thevai around two decades ago.

Parthiban was the hero of the film and a leading actress had agreed to do the heroine. However, due to some reasons, the heroine could not turn up for the shooting and the makers started looking for a replacement.

"That was when I met Ashwini, acting in Telugu films then. She was a little plump, but suited the role I had conceived. The next day, she was on board." Parthiban said that soon after Pondatti Thevai’s release, he lost touch with the actress.

Parthiban's son Radhakrishnan and Ashwini’s son Karthik are classmates at Loyola College and through Radhakrishnan, Parthiepan came to know recently that Karthik’s mom was battling for life due to lung cancer.

"On Sunday early morning, she suffered a heart attack and breathed her last. I arranged for an ambulance to take her body to her native place Nellore, where her mother resides, for cremation. There is no doubt that it is a big loss for her family. Apart from consoling them, I wanted to help them in some way. I called Karthik and told him that I would support his future studies."
