Mixed B.O. reports on Delhi-6?

There are not just mixed reviews on Delhi-6, even the box office reports on the film's collection are mixed and confusing.

A report by a popular entertainment site points out that there is disparity between the figures projected by producers UTV and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. While Rakeysh has reportedly said that the film made Rs. 22 crores in its opening weekend in India, UTV's official reports say that the film has made Rs. 27.50 crores in 3 days across 945 screens in India. Thisfigure is said to be higher than the opening weekend collections of blockbusters like Jodhaa Akbar, Dostana and Taare Zameen Par. The film is also reported to be the highest grossing solo Abhishek starrer.

Yet there are reports of the film faring quite well in cinema halls. Delhi-6 is said to have grossed USD 600,000 in the opening weekend across 90 screens in North America; USD 380,000 in 4 days across 30 screens; and USD 160,000 in 3 days in UK.

However, certain film business analysts maintain that the movie has received only a lukewarm response even in an 'A' class collection centre such as Kolkata and that it fared well only in a handful of plexes in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore. A few even predict that this below-the-mark performance may hit Abhishek and Sonam hard.

Whatever the reports predict or imply, Delhi-6 has a stunning cast backed by a superb musical score. Though the initial numbers may depress, the final verdict is in the hands of the audience. Let's hope the film's box office reports improve in the coming weeks.
