Lekha anticipates better roles in Kollywood
Lekha Washington was quite the witty and whacko [in a good way, of course] VJ on SS Music, and when she decided to take the cine plunge, expectations were quite high. Kettavan opposite Simbu was to be her launchpad, but after that movie went on hold,�Jayam Kondan marked her entry to films. Though she played a supporting role in the movie, she did not go by unnoticed. But having played a ‘sister role’ in the movie, getting a lead role in a Tamil film has been hard, she admits.
“Though Jayam Kondan helped break the glam-gal image that SS Music had fetched me, playing a sister-role sort of got me stereotyped. I was able to prove I could act, but it was hard landing a lead role after that. The Tamil industry’s response to me has not been as great as it has been in other languages. But with my upcoming releases in Hindi and Telugu, I’m sure that is going to change,” says Lekha with a lot of hope.
