Yugapurushan begins

Ace director R. Sukumaran's multistarrer Yugapurushan, a period film based on the life and times of Sree Narayana Guru (1856-1928), a prophet, saint, sage and social reformer of Kerala, starts rolling from today (January 21) at Ottappalam, Kannur and nearby places with popular Tamil actor Thalaivasal Vijay in the title character. To be completed in three schedules�with a budget of 5 crores, the film features Malayalam superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal together again after their immensely successful Twenty:20.

Mammootty plays the role of K.C. Kuttan, a revolutionary who lived and supported the guru’s principles and teachings in the same period. Mohanlal dons the character of Swamy Vivekananda while Babu Antony is in the role of Ayyankali, a Harijan leader in Kerala. Navya Nair is cast in the role of a Brahmin lady named Savithri Antharjanam, who loves and marries a 'pulayan' named Koran. Thalaivasal Vijay will don the role of Sree Narayana Guru in his seventies.

The movie will also present historic personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Tagore, Chattambi Swamikal, poet Kumaranasan, T.K. Madhavan, Ayyankaali and Mannathu Padmanabhan. Also in the cast are Jagathy Sreekumar, Kalabhavan Mani, Saikumar, Siddique, Devan, Saiju Kurup, Sukumari and Shobha Mohan. Ramachandra Babu handles the camera. Yugapurushan is produced by A.V. Anoop in association with AMMA (the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes).
