Popular Tamil writer and director Babu Sivan passed away last night (September 16) and his unexpected demise has come as a shocker for the Tamil film fraternity. After assisting director Dharani in films like Ghilli and Dhool, Babu Sivan made his directorial debut with Thalapathy Vijay’s Vettaikaran that was produced by AVM Productions and released by Sun Pictures. He had last directed some of the episodes of the Tamil TV serial, Raasathi, that starred Devayani in the lead role. The serial was aired on Sun TV.

Coming back to his directorial film Vettaikaran, it was an entertaining commercial action drama that satisfied the mainstream audience and was a success at the box office. Even a few weeks back when it was aired on Sun TV, the entire social media was abuzz about it. Babu Sivan made Vettaikaran as a film with celebratory mass scenes and powerful punch dialogues that would be enjoyed by the fans. The film’s songs and background score was composed by Vijay Antony who delivered a chartbuster album. Be it the mass numbers, ‘Puli Urumudhu’ or ‘Naan Adicha Thaangamatta’, or the romantic fun dance numbers like ‘Oru Chinna Thamarai’, ‘Karigalan’, ‘En Uchi Mandai’, the album of Vettaikaran was a huge hit among the people of Tamil Nadu.

Having said that, Vijay Antony has now officially shared his condolence message on the death of director Babu Sivan. He took to his Twitter space to share his note and he sounded completely shocked by the director’s demise. He recollected the memories of working with him during the Vettaikaran days. Vijay Antony tweeted, “I am deeply saddened and shocked about the sudden demise of Vettaikaaran director Babu Sivan. He was a very simple man who gave me complete freedom to execute my ideas in Vettaikaaran. Condolences and strength to his family and friends.”. A lot of fans are also mourning the demise of Babu Sivan on social media. Let us pray for the departed soul to rest in peace.

Babu Sivan died during the night of September 16 due to kidney and liver failure problems. He was admitted at the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital in Chennai and was under treatment for the past few days. Babu Sivan was 54 years old and he is survived by his wife and two daughters.
