Today turned out to be a shocking day for a group of devotees travelling the Kamleshwar Mahadev Temple in the Indergarh area of Bundi district, in Rajasthan. A group of over 40 devotees were travelling by boat to the temple on the Chambal river, when it suddenly capsized, earlier today. When the boat turned over, about 20-25 people are said to have swam to the shore but unfortunately about 14 of the remaining people are said to have been killed in this accident. This tragic incident is said to have happened near the Kota district in the Didri Chambal area, under the Khatoli Police Station limits!

Eyewitnesses have recorded that strong currents in the river caused the boat to capsize and atleast 10 people were killed almost immediately while quite a few remained missing. A search and rescue operation has been underway from the morning. On coming to know of this tragedy, the Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 1 lakh to the next of kin, of the victims who lost their lives when the boat capsized. He also expressed his condolences to the families of those who died.

The locals from the area are helping in the rescue operations and some people state that the boat was helping the people cross from one bank to another, when this accident happened, unexpectedly. The bodies of all those missing haven't been recovered yet and there are some hopes that a few people might have made it to one of the banks, further along the river. Stay tuned for updates...
