Actor-politician Udhayanidhi Stalin emerged victorious after contesting in the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni constituency at the recently-concluded 2021 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election. Udhayanidhi, who has been serving as the Youth Wing Secretary of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), on Tuesday took his oath of office at the swearing-in ceremony for the first time as an MLA in the State Legislative Assembly, in the presence of his father and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK. Udhayanidhi's electoral debut was on a largely successful note as he secured 93,285 votes and came on top with 69,355 more votes than his competitors among whom were Pattali Makkal Katchi's AVA Kassali and Naam Tamilar Katchi's Jayasimmaraja.

Dressed in a white full-sleeve shirt and denim jeans, Udhayanidhi Stalin is seen walking towards the dias to take the oath of MLA after the House Speaker calls out his name. We see Udhayanidhi in the video saying, "Udhayanidhi Stalin enum naan...", with the other DMK MLAs giving him a rousing round of applause. In his speech, Udhayanidhi states, "As an elected representative, I shall adhere to the laws of the Constitution of India in serving the people with honesty and belief." Udhayanidhi has succeeded three-time former DMK MLA J. Anbazhagan from the Chepauk constituency, who had passed away last year due to COVID-19 complications.

The MK Stalin-led DMK won the 2021 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election securing 159 constituencies to come on top of the AIADMK, which ended up with 75 seats. The DMK has come back to power after their recent win in the 2021 TN Assembly elections and have formed the government in the state after a decade when MK Stalin's father, the late M. Karunanidhi was the Chief Minister. Watch below the video of Udhayanidhi Stalin being sworn as an MLA in the Tami Nadu Assembly:
