Tamil Nadu theaters, especially the multiplexes and branded cinema halls in Chennai refused to increase prices as suggested by the TN government.

When a new law allowed them to increase it up to Rs. 160, the total cost including online booking charges pushed it to a massive Rs. 235 making it impossible for cinema goers to make a choice.

In order to not intimidate people so quickly, TN theaters refused to hike prices and keep it at the Rs. 153.60 mark which already is there for the past few weeks. Instead they want the 10% State Taxes to be removed and ticket prices further increased up to Rs. 200 or so to make it a profitable business.

Theater owners didn’t comment as to why they collect Rs. 30 to Rs. 40 as online booking charges for each seat. On the other side, the government opines 10% tax is hardly a problem for the flourishing cinema industry.
