The entire film industry including the directors, producers and theatre council is in a nail biting moment as they wish to conclude the strike by Thursday so that new films scheduled for release on July 7th doesn’t lose more revenue.

With the GST, local body tax and another local body tax applied on tickets, the total share producers and theatre owners gets as low as Rs. 20. “Our request is simple and reasonable. We would like the maximum ticket prices to be hiked up to Rs. 200 in multiplexes. It is the same in other states while Hyderabad goes up to Rs. 300, Kerala allows Rs. 250 as the maximum cap. And, we request the local body double tax to be removed,” said a theater owner.

Another prevalent claim is that the hefty salary actors receive and many other top technicians in the industry is supposed to be reduced so that the film industry could thrive. The general public largely feels the salaries are too high and Madhan Karky’s decision to reduce his remuneration was welcome and expect all other stars, technicians to follow the same route as they do in the Malayalam film industry.
