The multiple-heroine trend

Tamil cinema is influenced by changing trends. Some time back, two heroes and multi-starrers hogged the limelight in Kollywood; almost every other releaserevolved arounddouble or triple hero subjects. Similarly, now is the trend for multiple heroines. Cheran’s Autograph inspired this trend in a big way. The film had Gopika, Sneha and Kanihaa as its lead ladies. Cheran'snext film Raman Thediya Seethaihadfive heroines with Vimala Raman, Ramya Nambisan, Gajala, Karthika andNavya Nair. In both these films, apart from adding to the pre-release and post-release hype, each heroine’s role was pivotal to the story. With the success of both the movies, the trend settled in Kollywood.

Now, a number of recent and upcoming releases have multiple heroines. Raghava Lawrence’s Rajathi Raja has a long lineup of heroines: Snigdha, Kamna, Mumtaj, Meenakshi, Samiksha and Kiron. Newcomers Saranya, Tanusika, Varsha, Vasundra and Liyasree pair up with Jayam Ravi for Peraanmai.Solla Solla Inikkumwith Jayaram as herofeatures Mallika Kapoor, Suja andMadhumita as heroines.

Itseems this trendis here to stay till some new trend finds success.
