A film that has turned out to be a spectacular box office success, 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Master released in theatres in India and several other parts of the world on January 13 after being delayed for nearly a year due to the pandemic. Lokesh Kanagaraj's mass masala action entertainer produced by Xavier Britto's XB Film Creators and also starring 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi as the antagonist has completed more than weeks of its theatrical run, with the film streaming on Amazon Prime Video since January 29. With the film now simultaneously being screened on the big screen and playing on the OTT platform, a few cinema hall owners across Tamil Nadu have informed that Master's theatrical run will most likely come to an end on February 2.

The news of Master's theatrical run coming to an end in its third week has left many shocked, who took to social media to express their disappointment as they had hoped for the film to continue playing in cinema halls for some more time. Rakesh Gowthaman, Proprietor of Vettri Theatres in Chennai on Saturday tweeted saying, Master's theatrical run coming to end on February 2 is a high possibility and informed fans to catch the film in cinema halls in case they wish to watch it. He also said that there will be clarity on the matter by February 1 and hoped that the run is extended as the film has been witnessing good numbers despite it being streamed now on OTT.

In that light, the popular Ganesh Theatre in Melur, North Madurai let know followers that the license to screen Master in theatres was only up to February 2 and there are high chances the film will be removed from screens. Jothi Theatre in Tiruchengode went one step forward and announced via wall posters that Master's ticket rates are now priced at Rs 50/- and will come to an end on Feb 2. The news of Master's theatrical run coming to end in such a short span of time will no doubt come as a big blow to some fans and for the most part theatre owners, who would have wished the film to continue being screened for a longer time. Master has turned the tides for multiplexes and single screen cinema halls, who breathed a big sigh of relief with the film's release. Both Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi's star power and power-packed screen presence have not only brought a big debate about the film, but also revived the movie-watching experience on the big screen.
