The recently concluded India vs Australia Test series, threw up a lot of surprises, albeit pleasant ones for India and not so for the Aussies! Despite being plagued by injuries and being down and out in the series after the first Test, India bounced back strongly to carve a historic win, creating unforgettable memories as good as when they won the World Cup in 2011! From among the many takeaways for India in this series, the emergence of left-arm pacer T Natarajan as an attacking bowler on the big stage, was one! After a breakaway year in the IPL 2020, Tamil Nadu player T Natarajan who played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad team in the tournament, was drafted into the Indian squad!
He was originally selected only for the T20 squad but travelled with the rest of the squad and was available for the ODIs as well! After suddenly getting his maiden ODI cap in the 3rd ODI between India and Australia, Nattu (as he is fondly known) impressed one and all! He excelled in the T20 series that followed and was asked to remain on with the squad as a nets bowler, for the Test series too! However, with injuries to a number of frontline Test bowlers in the Indian squad, T Natarajan and his TN compatriot Washington Sundar got to make their Test debuts, in the all important 4th Test against Australia, that too at the Aussie fortress of The Gabba! Natarajan once again showed his skills and picked up a number of wickets and thereby silenced his critics who claimed that he would not perform in the longer version of the game and was only suitable for the shorter formats!
Natarajan had not even returned to India for the birth of his first child and chose to take care of national duty first! His dedication and on-field exploits, earned him a lot of fans and followers! Upon his return to India, Natarajan had recently visited the famous Palani Temple, to offer his prayers to Lord Murugan. He had also tonsured his head, as an offering for the lord! Photos of Nattu's visit to the Palani Temple, have gone Viral! Ever since he shaved his head, there have been a lot of comparisons with his gesture and to what Dhoni did after the 2011 World Cup! Photos of a bald Dhoni holding aloft the World Cup, are images that are sure to have been etched onto the minds of all Indian cricket fans. As Natarajan has also shaved his head and gone for a bald look, many cricket enthusiasts are comparing him to Dhoni!
