One of the biggest and most popular superstars in South India, Vijay, or as he is lovingly called as ‘Thalapathy’ by his countless fans will be seen in the highly anticipated action sports drama film, Bigil, coming out in theatres as a Diwali release in October. The superstar’s next project, Thalapathy 64, under Maanagaram and the upcoming Kaithi fame director Lokesh Kanagaraj too was also recently announced as a summer 2020 release with filming planned to kick-off from October. In the midst of this, Naam Tamilar Katchi’s Seeman had a few days back at a press meet stated that he would welcome Vijay in politics if the actor ultimately made such a decision. Likewise, Vijay had recently attended a family function of a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader with pictures of him meeting the President of the party, M. K. Stalin, going on to trend virally on social networking forums. Now, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (AIADMK) minister D. Jayakumar has issued a statement saying Vijay joining DMK would not affect the ADMK in any way while also adding that their party will emerge victorious in the next assembly elections as well.

Vijay’s entry into politics has been debated for many years over the course of his glorious career especially considering he has been part of projects that revolve socio-political themes. The superstar’s last film Sarkar, released last year was centered around a political narrative and went on to become a massive blockbuster, while also raising an awareness on the much-debated Section 49P Indian Election rule. His films Kaththi and Mersal too have dealt with heavy political themes and his fans and political analysts since then have been predicting Vijay’s political entry in the future.
