TDP founder and Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao's (known as NTR) daughter Kanthamaneni Uma Maheswari was found hanging at her residence in Telangana's Hyderabad on Monday (August 1). She had committed suicide at her residence in Jubilee Hills Hyderabad. When police reached the spot, Maheswari, the youngest among 12 children of the NTR found her hanging.

Police had shifted the body to a local government hospital for postmortem and PME. A case has been registered under Sections 174 of CrPC and the investigation is underway. She was reportedly facing health issues for the last few months and was under treatment. 

As the news spread, TDP president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, his son Nara Lokesh and members of the family rushed to Maheswari's residence. Former Union Minister and BJP leader Daggubati Purandeswari and TDP President and former chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's wife Nara Bhuwaneswari are her well-known sisters.

NTR had 12 children in total - eight sons and four daughters. Maheswari was the youngest of four daughters. Recently the family members had met at the wedding of the deceased's daughter. NTR's three sons have already passed away. NT Rama Rao was popularly known as NTR. The actor-turned-politician had floated the TDP in 1982 and led the party to power within nine months in the then undivided land of Andhra Pradesh. NT Rama Rao breathed his last in 1996 at the ripe old age of 72. A few months before his death, NTR was thrown out of power following a revolt led by his son-in-law Chandrababu Naidu.

Sourced close to the family have revealed that Uma Maheswari's brother, popular Tollywood actor and TDP legislator, N. Balakrishna and other family members who live abroad have been informed.
