Mani Ratnam's epic period action drama magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan: I has been making waves worldwide ever since its grand release on September 30. The film has been lauded and revered by fans and critics alike, praising it for its direction, performances by the cast, music score, visuals, and faithfulness to the novel. PS1 recently hit a major milestone by getting a place for itself in the 300 crore club. Though an unbelievably great feat, it is not the first time a Tamil film has found its way to the 300-crore club. Let us look at some of such films that warmly welcomed Ponniyin Selvan: I to this category:

The robot is later upgraded to give it the ability to comprehend and exhibit human emotions. The project backfires when Chitti starts developing feelings and falls in love with Vaseegaran's girlfriend, Sana (Aishwarya Rai), and is manipulated by Bohra, a rival scientist, into becoming a homicidal psychopath.

Together, they face the supernatural powers of Pakshi Rajan (Akshay Kumar),  a former ornithologist who seeks vengeance upon cell phone users to prevent avian population decline. The once-dismantled humanoid robot Chitti is brought to the scene in order to aid in this chaos.

4) BIGIL:

Worldwide collection: Rs. 300 crores + (approx)

This 2019 sports action film revolves around Michael 'Bigil' Rayyapan (Thalapathy Vijay) alias Bigil who is compelled to give up a promising career in football and becomes a gangster after his father Rayappan's (also Thalapathy Vijay) murder. But destiny intervenes and presents him with an opportunity to pursue his passion by coaching a women's football team when their coach gets attacked. He faces challenges when his team does not cooperate with him due to his violent background and also finds himself hunted by some rivals who want revenge.

5) VIKRAM:

This action thriller film which was released this year follows a special agent Amar (Fahadh Faasil) who investigates a murder of a black-ops squad agent, Vikram (Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan), committed by a masked group of serial killers. However, a tangled maze of clues soon leads him to the drug syndicate group called Vetti Vagaiyara, led by Sandhanam (Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathy), who wants the missing drugs to be delivered to his boss Rolex (Suriya).

Following these 5 films, Ponniyin Selvan has now joined as the sixth Tamil film to collect more than 300 crores at the box office. Looking at the scenario, Ponniyin Selvan has high chances of entering the 500 crore club, as well.
