The prestigious 68th National Film Awards honoring Indian films from 2020 are being announced on Friday, September 30, organized by the Directorate of Film Festivals, which comes under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Several big notable names have been felicitated with top honors and one among them is leading Tamil actor-producer Suriya, who received the Best Actor award from Droupadi Murmu, President of India, for his performance in Soorarai Pottru. The announcement of Suriya being adjudged for the Best Actor Award had come sometime back, who is sharing the honors with Hindi actor Ajay Devgn for his performance in Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior, with the National Film Awards ceremony taking place in New Delhi today. 

Suriya played the role of Nedumaaran Rajangam aka. Maara in Soorarai Pottru, who hails from a remote village and sets forth to launch his own airliner, and has to overcome many obstacles in his path to achieve his dream. Directed by Sudha Kongara, the film was produced by Suriya and Jyotika under their 2D Entertainment and Guneet Monga's Sikhya Entertainment banners and also stars Aparna Balamurali, Urvashi, Karunas, Mohan Babu, Poo Ramu, Kaali Venkat, Vinodhini Vaidyanathan, Paresh Rawal among others, and features music by music by G. V. Prakash Kumar.
