Suriya will be joining hands with blockbuster director Siva for a new film, tentatively titled Suriya 42 and the project was officially launched with a formal pooja on Sunday, August 21, in Chennai. However, the pictures from the launch event were not released by the makers and the fans were eagerly waiting to know the updates. That being the case, the d-day has now finally arrived and the film has been officially confirmed by the makers on social media. The shooting of the film begins today (August 24) in Chennai with Suriya and marking the occasion, the pooja launch pictures have been released.

Suriya took to his official Twitter page to share a new picture of him along with director Siva and music composer Devi Sri Prasad and the picture has set the fans in delight. Sharing the picture, Suriya tweeted, "Shoot begins..! Need all your blessings..!! #Suriya42 @directorsiva @ThisIsDSP @StudioGreen2 @UV_Creations". Similarly, director Siva also shared his happiness and excitement about beginning this new film through a tweet in which he thanked the fans for all the wishes. Siva's official tweet read, "SAI SAI very happy to start our new project with the blessings of god and best wishes of all the fans 🙏 media friends 🙏 cinema lovers 🙏 🙏well wishers 🙏 🙏 Thank you surya sir , Studiogreen, uv creations 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 SIVA & TEAM #Suriya42".

This film will have music composed by Devi Sri Prasad who is returning to Tamil cinema after a gap of close to 4 years, with his last release being Saamy Square. Produced by Studio Green in association with UV Creations, Suriya 42 will have cinematography handled by Vetri Palanisamy, while the art direction and stunt choreography departments are headed by Milan and Supreme Sundar respectively. The makers are yet to officially announce the female lead and the rest of the cast.
