'Superstar' Rajinikanth has expressed condolences for the demise of actor-director G. Marimuthu on Friday, September 8. Taking to the social media platform X, the leading Tamil actor wrote in his post, "Marimuthu is a great human being. His death has left me in a shock. My heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family." (sic) Marimuthu appeared in a key role in Rajinikanth's recently released Jailer and earned appreciation for his performance as one of the antagonists in the film directed by Nelson Dilipkumar under the Sun Pictures banner. 

The news of Marimuthu's demise has come as a big shock to the Tamil film fraternity, with many notable names paying their tributes in person and on social media. Jailer director Nelson Dilipkumar and production banner Sun Pictures have also paid their homage to the late actor. Marimuthu had suffered a heart attack earlier in the day in Chennai while he was dubbing for a television serial in a studio. According to reports, he had experienced uneasiness and was rushed to a private hospital after which his body was later shifted to his residence. Marimuthu died at age 57 and is survived by his wife Bhagyalakshmi, son Akilan, and daughter Ishwarya. 

Marimuthu became a household name for his role as the villain Aadhi Gunasekaran in the hit Sun TV serial Ethir Neechal. Apart from his appearance in Rajinikanth's Jailer, he was also seen in Tamil films like Yuddham Sei (2011), Nimirndhu Nil (2014), Komban (2015), Trisha Illana Nayanthara (2015), Kodi (2016), Kadaikutty Singam (2018), Pariyerum Perumal (2018), Irandam Ulagaporin Kadaisi Gundu (2019), Doctor (2021), and Vikram (2022) to name a notable few. Reports further state that Marimuthu had filmed for a role in Kamal Haasan's upcoming film, Indian 2, directed by Shankar.
