Subramaniapuram in Telugu as Anathapuram 1980

Director Sasikumar’s super hit Tamil movie Subramaniapuram (also spelt as Subramaniyapuram) will soon be dubbed in Telugu as Ananthapuram 1980. Starring Sasikumar and an assortment of actors with varied styles including Jai, Kanja Karuppu and Swathi, this period film was a stupendous hit. After winning several awards including “the best path-breaking movie” award from Kerala’s prestigious Mathrabhoomi Publications, the film is now being dubbed in Telugu.

Originally, Subramaniapuram was supposed to be remade in Telugu, but the producers felt that even if remade with some cultural adaptation, the film's themewould still lookalien to the people of Andhra Pradesh; if they tried to include too much local flavour, its elegance would be lost. Therefore they decided to dub the film instead of remaking it. Nevertheless, the news about the film and its dispassionately realistic theme has reached allcorners of South India, which has generated a curiosity wave across Andhra Pradesh. Plus, the film stars Swathi, the star of Ashtha Chamma, which adds to people’sexpectations which is an added advantage.
