There's no stopping Suriya's Soorarai Pottru from garnering more new honors as the critically-acclaimed action drama, which premiered on Amazon Prime last year as a grand Diwali treat, has now joined the likes of celebrated Hollywood films like The Shawshank Redemption and Godfather. Yes, you heard that right! Soorarai Pottru directed by Sudha Kongara is now the third-highest rated film on IMDb after The Shawshank Redemption and Godfather. Speaking about this latest development, Sudha Kongara in an interview to The Federal told, "It is the greatest pleasure. Being right next to my most favourite film, and the film that inspired me to get into cinema—The Godfather."

This new boost for Soorarai Pottru comes as the film was recently announced to be entering the Panorama Section of the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) 2021, which is set to take place this year from June 11 to June 20. Sudha Kongara spoke about the film's impact at a turbulent phase for people world over now and said, "These are heart-breaking times for people across the globe. The core of Soorarai Pottru is bravery and human triumph in the face of the greatest challenges and adversities. Perhaps that is why it is resonating with the viewers in these difficult times."

Earlier this year, Soorarai Pottru entered the Oscars 2021 race in the Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Score, and several other categories. Jointly produced by Suriya's 2D Entertainment and Guneet Monga's Sikhya Entertainment banners, the film features chart-buster music by G. V. Prakash Kumar, with stellar performances from actress Aparna Balamurali, who played the female lead, followed by the supporting cast among whom included veteran actress Urvashi, Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal, Telugu superstar Mohan Babu, Karunas, Vivek Prasanna, Kaali Venkat and Krishna Kumar.
