Silambarasan TR's Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu has taken a stellar opening everywhere and the actor's powerful performance has been dubbed as one of the finest in his career. The gangster film has been directed by Gautham Menon under Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh's Vels Film International banner and features music by A. R. Rahman, with the actor recently sitting down for an interview with National Award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan, the Editor-in-Chief of Galatta Plus to talk about his role, while also taking a trip down memory lane to his Podaa Podi released in 2012.

Speaking about his experience in Podaa Podi, which saw him cast opposite Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, STR said, "At the time, I had signed three films with three new directors. One was Vaalu, the second was Vettai Mannan with Nelson, and the third one was Podaa Podi with Vignesh. For that time, it was a little ahead. But, as I told you, I always wanted to do something off-beat and this was one that fit that category. Actually, Vettai Mannan didn't happen but had it come out, people would have spoken a lot more about it. As for Podaa Podi, if you look at the acting in that now, it won't be on the lines of an actor's normal role. In a few instances, I would have taken a considerable amount of time to react to scenes. They would set up a shot and tell me to react immediately after the girl says her dialogue. Otherwise, the audience will wonder whether I've missed the dialogue. But, in reality, you will take your own time and there will be a certain pace to things around you in that time. So, there are many such things and if you delve deep into the film, we would have worked a lot on minute details, including the expressions, words, and sounds. But, at that time, it got released during the time of Diwali with Thuppakki and it wasn't talked about much then. However, it's now getting rediscovered by many people, who are watching it on Hotstar."
