Sidhu debuts in Punjabi film

In keeping with his political persona as an MP, former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu is all set to make his debut on the silver screen in a Punjabi movie Mera Pind (My Home), to be released on September 8.

Sidhu plays a non-resident Indian, who tries to uplift the village folks of Punjab after returning to India. "When I was offered a role in Mera Pind, I could not decline because I found my role to be very close to my heart,” Sidhu told the media at the movie’s launch.

The film aims to make Punjabi audiences realize the importance of being an entreprenuer in one's own land rather than showing one's skills in the West where Punjabis are said to be fairly successful and hardworking.

Before he agreed to do Mera Pind, Sidhu was offered a role in Akshay Kumar’s forthcoming release Sing is Kinng, but he turned it down. A Reliance Big Entertainment production, Mera Pind has singer-actor Harbhajan Mann and Kim Varma also in the cast and has music by Babloo Kumar.

Mera Pind is being directed by noted Bollywood cinematographer Manmohan Singh, who was cinematographer for most of Yash Raj Films productions, including Darr, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Dil To Pagal Hai and Mohabbatein. He has made seven movies in Punjabi.
