Savitri award goes to Jamuna
The Savitri Memorial Award, instituted in memory of late actress Savitri, will be presented to versatile actress Jamuna, senior director Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao announced on Wednesday during his 65th birthday celebrations. He said Jamuna will be honoured with this award, carrying Rs. 2 lakh cheque and a citation.
Jamuna had shared screen space with many great actors and actresses including NTR, Akkineni Nageshwara Rao, Savitri and Vanisri in many blockbusters like Missamma, Maya Bazaar, Mooga Manasulu, Illarikam and Gundamma Katha.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, Dasari said: "I am planning to set up Dasari Film Institute to train upcoming artistes and technicians. Every year, several fans are celebrating my birthday as a festival and they are doing so for the past 35 years, despite my victories and downfalls. I am so fortunate to bag the love of so many people. I bow my head and salute them for this."
