Leading actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu's Shaakuntalam has been postponed, production banner Gunaa Teamworks announced on Thursday, September 29. The team along with producer Dil Raju's Sri Venkateswara Creations have released a joint statement informing that they are planning to bring out the epic mythological romantic drama film to theatres in the 3D format while revealing that a new release date will be announced soon. The official statement is as follows: "We aim to give a bigger experience with Shaakuntalam and immerse you in the 'WORLD OF SHAAKUNTALAM' for which we as a team felt 3D would be a brilliant way. To facilitate this, we would be taking some time to put forth and so, will be unable to meet the earlier announced date of release. We thank the support and love showered upon us, from around the world, hoping for your support in this too! We will be announcing the new release date soon."

Directed by Gunasekhar, Shaakuntalam based on Kalidasa's epic Sanskrit play Abhijnanasakuntalam, was announced last week to be arriving on the big screens worldwide on November 4, 2022, and the latest announcement will no doubt come as a big disappointment for some fans. With the team announcing that the film will be getting a 3D release, we can expect them to come out with a terrific final output. Samantha is playing the titular role in Shaakuntalam opposite Dev Mohan who is portraying Dushyanta alongside a supporting cast featuring the likes of Mohan Babu, Aditi Balan, Prakash Raj, and Gautami among others, with Telugu superstar Allu Arjun's daughter Allu Arha also making her big-screen acting debut. As per the mythology, Shakuntala, the daughter of Rishi Vishwamitra and Meneka, lives in a forest when she comes across King Dushyant and falls in love with him.
