Resul Pookutty lashes out at KSFA jury

Oscar award winning sound engineer Resul Pookutty, who failed to bag any award at recently announced Kerala State Film Awards 2009 for his much-acclaimed work in his debut Malayalam film Pazhassi Raja, has lashed out at the award jury members, terming them as lacking any knowledge about sound and music. Pookutty also appealed to them not to impose their ignorance on the common man.

"Neglect is not new to me. It was I who introduced the concept of light sound in Indian cinema, but was never recognised in India. I see the neglect meted out to Pazhassi Raja as a continuation of this. Pazhassi Raja created a trend of people coming to cinema halls to hear the sound. The fact that common people accept the technical part of a cinema is a big change. To ignore this is like Pazhassi Raja getting avoided from the Panorama," the Oscar winner said.

Notably, Pazhassi Raja has won eight awards at the Kerala State Film Awards 2009 including best director (Hariharan), best scenarist (M.T. Vasudevan Nair), second best actor (Manoj K. Jayan), second best female actor (Padmapriya), best editor (Sreekar Prasad), art director (Muthuraj), costumer (Natarajan) and dubbing artiste (Shobby Tilakan).
