Rahman-Kalaignar launch Tamil theme song

Academy and Grammy award winning musician A.R. Rahman and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi officially launched the theme song for the World Classical Tamil Conference in Chennai recently. The World Classical Tamil Conference would be held in Coimbatore from June 23 to June 27. Ace director Gautham Vasudev Menon has wielded the megaphone for this musical album.

Karunanidhi, who has penned the lyrics for the song, said that it was difficult to illustrate in a poem the glory of different classical works written in various periods ranging from the Sangam era to the post-Sangam period, including those of Kamban and Kalamegam. Rahman is an example of how confidence and hard work would make one successful and his life would serve as a role model for youth, he added.

205 scholars from 27 countries are expected to participate in the World Classical Tamil Conference. There would be 53 experts from Sri Lanka, 37 from Singapore, 29 from Malaysia, 22 from the U.S. and 14 from Canada. The Tamil theme music is rendered by 60 singers, including the legendary T.M. Soundarrajan and P. Suseela.
