Producer dhananjeyan opens up on possibility of superstar rajinikanth jailer becoming industry hit - Tamil Movie Cinema News

'Superstar' Rajinikanth's Jailer is out in theatres worldwide and the response has been nothing short of spectacular. Directed by hit filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar and produced under the blockbuster Sun Pictures banner, the mass action entertainer featuring music composed by Anirudh Ravtook a sensational opening in cinemas everywhere and is en route to becoming a huge commercial success. With Jailer registering massive numbers at the box office, popular Tamil film producer-distributor G. Dhananjeyan recently sat down with Galatta for an exclusive interview to talk about the possibilities of the Rajinikanth-starrer becoming an industry hit.

Dhananjeyan said, "Whether Jailer will become an industry hit, we can't say. For this film to become an industry hit, it has to cross Ponniyin Selvan: 1. That film did a business of more than 210 crores in Tamil Nadu alone. When you say industry hit, it's only Ponniyin Selvan: 1. It grossed 210 crores. After that, the first film to become an industry hit was Vikram. It made around 180 crores. As of now, be it Red Giant Movies and what transpired during our discussions was that there's the possibility of Jailer touching the numbers of Vikram." He continued, "So if Jailer does a business of 180 crores, we have Tamil cinema's two biggest names, Rajinikanth sir on one side and Kamal Haasan on the other side, and they're once again ruling the box office. You can leave Ponniyin Selvan aside. It's an iconic multi-starrer film. If you put it on one end, there will be two other big films in the top industry hit category."

Dhananjeyan added, "There are all possibilities for Jailer to go on that route because there's been such a huge response. Usually, on a working day, the film won't open at 90 percent occupancy.  And, I'm not talking about the 11 a.m. show, but the 9 a.m. show. So, think about it. The second day was also at 90 percent occupancy. The entire weekend will be at 100 percent occupancy. So, when there's such a good response and a positive talk, the box office success will be phenomenal."
