Ponniyin selvan writing process with mani ratnam writer jeyamohan shares - Tamil Movie Cinema News

Writer Jeyamohan is one of the leading Tamil language writers who has penned many novels and short stories. He has also written the story for various popular Tamil films and some of his books have also been adapted into movies by popular directors. The upcoming release of Vetrimaran, Viduthalai, is based on the novel Thunaivan by Writer Jeyamohan. He is one of the co-writers of the epic adaptation of Ponniyin Selvan novels into a movie with Elango Kumaravel and Mani Ratnam. He has also written dialogues for the two-part film Ponniyin Selvan.

Writer Jeyamohan gave an exclusive interview to Galatta Media where he shared some insights about the writing process of Ponniyin Selvan, what people can expect from Ponniyin Selvan: 2 and more. When the anchor asked how they understood the process of adapting Ponniyin Selvan books into the movie from director Mani Ratnam. The writer said "the novel goes by in talking and in thoughts, that is right for novels. Cinema is not like that. Cinema should be in pictures if one character does not meet others then there is no story itself. In Ponniyin Selvan's novel, Everyone will be talking about Aditha Karikalan, he won’t be seen in person but when we see him he will die. Cinema can't be taken that way. In the movie at first Aditha Karikalan will come in, This is not present in the novel. That is cinema, In cinema the person is important. We cannot make a cinema with just four people talking, but, in the novel, if five people sit and talk about Aditha Karikalan that character will come alive. In cinema, if five people keep talking about another character, people won't be able to imagine the character."

Writer Jeyamohan went on to explain "one is the hyper drama, we are only used to it. For example AP Nagarajan's drama is all Hyper drama. This is one we are used to seeing. In Western movies, there is a type where there will be no drama, the story will move flatly. The right example would be Cleopatra. Not an undertone, but there will be drama but it will be toned down. It won’t take a long time. When, we say there is a drama at this place 'oh you have understood' and he moves away. That is Mani Ratnam's art form the beginning itself, That is what he has done. Now in one scene, Aditha Karikalan will never give up on his sister. he has respect for her. He knows that Kundavai only separated Nandini from him. But still, he thinks she did it for the Chozla's legacy and he has huge respect for her. Because of this, the movie is seen by youngsters. Today, you can’t get too emotional even with your children. This movie is not heart-pounding so those who are used to heart-pounding tales won't like it. But, they all saw the movie. If I have to say about this movie, a 90-year-old person and a 10-year-old kid, three generations can watch the film together
