2022 has been a massive year for blockbuster production-distribution house Lyca Productions after the phenomenal success of Sivakarthikeyan's Don and the magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan: I directed by Mani Ratnam in Tamil, while also tasting huge box office returns with the films they distributed like RRR and Sita Ramam in Telugu. Currently bankrolling a few big ventures, the reputed production banner's next big film is the much-awaited rural family action drama, Pattathu Arasan, which has Atharvaa Murali playing the lead role as a Kabbadi player under Kalavani fame A. Sarkunam’s direction.

Announced to open in cinemas on November 25, promotions for Pattathu Arasan are in full swing, with Lyca Productions on Friday releasing the film's action-packed trailer, which shows Atharvaa flexing his muscles and going full out in his rural avatar. The trailer starts off showing Atharvaa on the Kabbadi field up against several other opponent players, with veteran actors Rajkiran, Radikaa Sarathkumar, and Jayaprakash appearing in key roles, while popular Kannada heroine Ashika Ranganath is making her Tamil cinema debut. The Pattathu Arasan trailer also gives us glimpses of two different time periods where Rajkiran is shown as a Kabbadi player during his youth, while he later takes Atharvaa under his wing and guides him in the sport as his mentor, with RK Suresh, Raj Ayyappa, Bala Saravanan, Shatru, among others cast in major supporting roles.

Pattathu Arasan is a big film for Atharvaa and he will be looking to hit it out of the park after his two releases this year Kuruthi Aattam and Trigger didn't perform as he might have wanted. Likewise, filmmaker Sarkunam too would want to come out big with the film after his Kalavani 2 in 2019 failed to make an impact. Pattathu Arasan is one among the several upcoming ventures in Lyca Productions' big lineup which includes Ponniyin Selvan: 2, which is slated to hit screens next summer, followed by Kamal Haasan's magnum opus Indian 2 being directed by Shankar, Chandramukhi 2 with Raghava Lawrence under P. Vasu's direction, 'Vaigai Puyal' Vadivelu's big comeback project Naai Sekar Returns, and Aishwarya Rajinikanth's Lal Salaam starring Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth, with 'Superstar' Rajinikanth announced to make a guest appearance.
