Nirmala Periyasami in films

A few years ago in Chennai, on almost all days at 8:00 p.m., a very distinctive sounding “Vanakkam” would permeate the environment. The source of this outlandish style and majestic voice: Nirmala Periyasami greeting the viewers in the prime time news on Sun TV.

Nirmala Periyasami captured everyone’s attention with her distinctive accent and news reading style. Nirmala soon joined the elite club of newsreaders who had a huge fan following, like Shobana Ravi and Fathima Babu. And Kollywood was no exception; many directors and producers, mesmerized by her voice and attracted by her style, desperately tried to rope in Nirmala in their film. But Nirmala turned down the myriad offers that came her way and chose to stay away from Kollywood.

But finally, the script of Vedigundu Murugesan has changed her mind. Yes! Nirmala Periasami is acting in Vedigundu Murugesan in the role of a judge, no less, pretty soon. Nirmala said that she liked the script very much and hence accepted the role.

So, we will finally get to see Nirmala Periyasami in a film, that too in the commanding role of a judge, which aptly suits her personality. And boy! It is hard to imagine how she is going to utter the favourite terms of filmy court scenes, like, ‘order’, ‘the court is adjourned’, ‘objection overruled’! We doubt if her dialogues include her trademark “Vanakkam”!
