Navdeep held for drunken driving

Popular South Indian actor Navdeep and his friend were arrested by the Hyderabad city police on Saturday midnight at Banjara Hills on charges of drunken and rash driving. A constable suffered minor injuries when he tried to stop the vehicle. The duo was produced before a magistrate on Sunday afternoon at West Marredpally and later granted bail.

Police teams under the supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) C.V. Anand and DCP (West) Stephen Ravindra were checking motorists at KBR Park with breathalysers. Navdeep and his friend Parameswar coming from Sagar Society Road in a black Honda Accord saw the policemen near Cinemax multiplex at KBR Park.

Though Sub-Inspector P. Rambhupal waved to them to stop, the actor gave him the slip and took a sudden left turn at KBR Park junction. Officials at the spot flashed a message through wireless sets and a police team at the Cancer Institute intercepted the vehicle.

They were brought to Banjara Hills police station and then shifted to Gandhi Hospital for medical examination. The medical test report confirmed that the actor had consumed liquor beyond the permissible limit and was driving the car.

Police claimed that he behaved in a rude manner while being shifted to Gandhi Hospital in an autorickshaw. Banjara Hills Inspector Mohammed Iqbal Siddiqui said cases under Sections 279 (rash driving), 332 (causing hurt) and 353 (assault) of IPC read with 185 of Motor Vehicle Act were booked against the two and they were arrested.
