Mullassery Music Award for Bijibal

Young music director Bijibal, who shot to fame through his compositions in the movie Arabikatha (2007), directed by Lal Jose, will be presented the sixth Mullassery Music Award, instituted in memory of Mullassery Raju, an ardent lover of music. Actor Sreenivasan will give way the award on Friday in Kozhikode.

"This is the first ever award I am getting, so I am very thrilled. It is humbling to know that some great composers have been its recipients in the past," Kochi-based Bijibal told during an interview given to a national newspaper.

The previous winners of the award include eminent music directors Johnson, Raveendran and Vidyasagar. It is one of the few awards in Kerala that recognise the contribution of a composer to film music.

A violinist, Bijibal started composing songs from his college days own wards. He worked with some of the music albums like ‘Ente Keralam.’ Later, he started orchestration and composing ad jingles, which incidentally continues to be a major source of income for him even today.

Bijibal has tuned songs for many movies including Nasrani, Minnaminnikoottam and Ayudham. He has also made his mark as a composer of background scores for films like Cycle and Rock N Roll.
