Lakshana: Leaving her mark in a big way

Initially hesitant to accept the Eesa offer, Lakshana is delighted with the final product. This promising Malayalam actress has received praise for her role in the just-released Tamil movie Eesa. The gruelling schedule at Tuticorin spanning over a month did take a toll on her health, but she was determined to give credibility to her Selvi character.

A familiar face in Malayalam movies, Lakshana said her recent releases include a movie each with Suresh Gopi and Mammootty.

Why is  she is not too keen to do Tamil films? Lakshana said she was embittered by the experience of Thirumagan where she found herself sidelined and her role cut due to the pressure from a top heroine.

Considering her great start – as the sister of Vijay in Sivakasi (2005) – Lakshana feels her career should have zoomed better. But she was particular about accepting only the right banner, role and director.

Not one to shun glamour, Lakshana has no reservations to expose if glamour finds place in the storyline. “Anything thrust into a scene is an eyesore. I have to be comfortable doing that before expecting the audience approval,” said Lakshana, not batting an eyelid.

Lakshana is ready for meaningful roles in Tamil, welcoming roles with happening directors like Sasikumar and Samudrakani. Quality films in Malayalam and Tamil are most welcome, she says, and she will be happy to do a shuttling act between the two languages.
