Karunas, music director

Karunas’s life has allthe stuff ofa fairy tale– struggle, hard work, and miraculous achievements. The comedian turned hero with Dindigul Sarathy and his work was absolutely loved by every Tamil cinema fan. Now, the talented actor will soon compose music for Sakthi Chidambaram's Lawrence-starrer Rajathi Raja. This definitely adds to the film’s USP as Karunas is a popular actor in Kollywood. His dear friend and musician Paul J. will also join him in this venture! This is a dream coming true for Karunas, who always wanted to compose music for films.

Composing music is not something new for Karunas. Before director Bala introduced him as a comedian in Nanda, Karunas had composed several music albums. He was very famous for his “gana” songs and also pop songs, which even earned him the nickname “Pop Karunas”.

Karunas is perhaps the first to release Tamil Nadu’s well-recognised pop album. Titled “Aisa Lakkadi Mettu” and released in 1987, it was a compilation of folk songs. Soon, he followed it up with 12 more albums including “Millenium 2000”, which is a hit with South Indian diaspora even today.

Born in a poor family in a village near Pudhukottai, Karunas’s early days were full of struggle. Even during his college life, Karunas had to do several odd jobs to makeends meet but that did not deter him from starting his own music troupe and releasing his first album. Not a man to forget his humble and struggling past, Karunas has adopted two children into his sweet family now. His wife is a music graduate and also manages the troupe he formed during his college days.
