Actor Karthik Muthuraman had quit the AIFB in 2008 and started his own political party, Akhila India Naadalum Makkal Katchi. In a recently held press conference he said that he has handpicked 12 constituencies in the state, where his candidates including himself, will stand for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He also hoped for a third front emerging, other than the BJP and the Congress but also added that such a scenario appears remote now. His party has also constituted a 45 member committee which would focus on pressing issues in the state. Karthik raised his concerns about the lack of awareness amongst the people of the state with respect to many issues ranging from the Kudankulam nuclear power plant to the state’s economic situation. In an attempt to close that gap he plans to issue pamphlets scripted in Tamil that will highlight the core issues of the state and he also hoped for increased participation from youngsters in politics. Karthik however did not respond to questions regarding possible alliances with other parties. He also said that his party's election campaigns would kickstart in Ambasamuthiram.
