Karthi's Viruman released last week in theatres and it took a very good opening at the box office. In fact, it emerged as Karthi's best ever opening in Tamil Nadu, overtaking films like Kadai Kutty Singam and Sulthan. That being said, Viruman has entered the second week from today (August 20) and it has got a very good hold of screens. Despite having new movie releases including that of Dhanush's biggie, Thiruchitrambalam, Viruman is maintaining the momentum fairly well. As per the official report shared by the makers, Viruman is running successfully in more than 400 theatres and is registering highly impressive numbers at the box office.

It looks like the family sentiments and the emotions have struck a chord with the mainstream audience, thereby emerging as a super hit film. Karthi has been maintaining his box office success streak quite efficiently and Viruman has helped him gain a rock solid market in the B and C centres. Viruman features director Shankar's daughter Aditi Shankar as the female lead, marking her debut in Tamil cinema as an actor. Her performance and energy in the dance portions have already been receiving positive reviews and she has been given a warm welcome by the Tamil audience.

Produced by Suriya under the banner of 2D Entertainment, the film has music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja whose songs - 'Kanja Poovu Kannaala' and 'Madura Veeran' turned out to be widely popular even before the release of the film. With cinematography by Selvakumar SK and editing by Venkat Raajen, the film has Prakash Raj, Soori, Raj Kiran, Vadivukkarasi, and others in important roles. Looking at the successful advance bookings, Viruman is expected to continue its impressive run until the end of this month. Karthi will next be seen in the highly anticipated historical epic, Ponniyin Selvan, directed by Mani Ratnam. PS 1 is scheduled to hit the screens on September 30.
