Karnataka CM congratulates Balachander

Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa congratulated renowned producer, director and screenwriter K. Balachander for winning the Dadasaheb Phalke award for the year 2010.

"Balachander has made yeoman contribution to Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi film field, not only as an ace director, but also as a story and dialogue writer. He has the distinction of introducing many leading actors. All his films have conveyed a subtle message to society. It is befitting that India's highest award in cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke Award is conferred on him," Yeddyurappa said in the message.

Balachander was chosen for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema. The award, given on the recommendations of a committee of eminent persons, consists of a Swarn Kamal, a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakhs and a shawl.

Announced by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, the award will be presented by President Pratibha Patil at the National Film Awards later this year. The dates are yet to be announced.
