Kalaignar's benevolence
Known for his benevolence, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has transferred the Rs. 50 lakhs he earned for penning the script of Pen Singam to the Arundathiyar Social Welfare Scheme. A press release said that the money would be used for the welfare of students pursuing medical and engineering courses.
In an earlier instance, the money earned by Kalaignar totalling Rs. 39 laksh (penning scripts for Mannin Maindhan, Kannamma and Uliyin Osai) were given to needy senior citizens working in various capacities in the film industry.
This gesture of Kalaignar has been appreciated by the industry members, who are planning a thanksgiving function to reciprocate.
